It’s long been common knowledge: don’t trust people who are handsome on the outside but rotten inside. But the designers of “clever and handsome” label from the very beginning were at odds with the first part and no longer even try to conceal that they are rotten inside out. This is exactly the case of Capital newspaper, the flagship of the indicted oligarch Ivo Prokopiev.

But the designers of “clever and handsome” label from the very beginning were at odds with the first part and no longer even try to conceal that they are rotten inside out. This is exactly the case of Capital newspaper, the flagship of the indicted oligarch Ivo Prokopiev.
This newspaper doesn’t even pretend any longer that it is about journalism not propaganda. One can hardly think of any other definition for the so-called “main feature” focused on the media sector in Bulgaria which this negligible weekly offers to its readers in its latest issue. In the three-page rubric titled “GERB’s Supportive Media”, under the pretext that they list the newspapers, TVs and online editions which support the government, Capital actually pools in one list all national media that are not part of the Fake News Factory sustained by Prokopiev himself and his oligarch-publishers associates, Ognyan Donev and Sasho Donchev. Of course, it won’t be fair not to include in this group Tsvetan Vassilev, who de-jure is not a publisher but de-facto is financing quite a few of the online editions and TV channels with the money stolen from the CorpBank depositors.
Following the tradition, the first ingredient in this propaganda hotchpotch are the publications of the Telegraph Media group and the aim is to kill two birds with one stone. Apart from the media of this group, the authors zero in on the publisher of Telegraph Media, Delyan Peevski who has long been a thorn in side of the abovementioned oligarchs thanks to his legislative initiatives. They served both to stop the secondary looting of CorpBank and to ensure full transparency in financing of all media in Bulgaria. The first amendment turned off the tap filling the pockets of Vassilev and his partners. The second one obliged all media which execute the oligarchs’ orders to declare the origin of their funds. This is the requirement which Capital and other media outlets of the Fake News Factory refuse to meet, because it will bring to light that they are sustained by the oligarch-publishers and grants.
By the way, Peevski is an MP of an opposition party and luging him in the ruling elite is an exotic idea, which, of course, has never embarrassed the Capital team. The important thing is to bring home to the populace the false talking points in the hope that eventually people will believe them. These are the principles underlying the material in which ties with media, which have nothing in common with Peevski (and not only Peevski), are imputed to him.
The question whether Capital has the right to compile lists of editions which, according to the weekly, support the government, is not comment-worthy at all. It suffices to say that this particular edition every year stages meetings between business community and the government and reaps generous dividends from every participant. Apparently, this is not mentioned in the propaganda piece. Nevertheless, it lists all of the editions which every day publish not only articles criticising the actions of the local governments but also of the central government (it can be readily traced), moreover they insist on restoring supremacy of law in Bulgaria. Including the demand for retribution for the criminal plunder of CorpBank and its depositors during the transition period. This is what troubles so much Prokopiev&Co who robbed hundreds of thousands of Bulgarian citizens. Now, not only do they want not to be held accountable for that, but are again showing keen appetite for our money.
